EPW - John Poole, London, lever fusee, 47mm, heavy 18K gold OF original case bearing London hallmarks for 1865, "J W R" in oval cameo for casemaker James Walter Redmond, white enamel SS dial with Runic style signature of "Elwell P. Sweit" in place of hour numerals, KWKS, lever escapement, diamond endstone, 11J, gilt mvt, s#2695 with matching serial number to dial and within case. Comes with a fitted leather John Poole box. Gross weight of assembled watch 52.4 dwt (81.6 g).
CONDITION:
Mvt: Running, barrel arbor is somewhat rounded causing slippage while winding, plates with cloudy tone, some fine scratches; dial with hl from center to 9:30, hl below seconds-register, very faint hl from center to upper-right of seconds-register, some small flakes at center, light gray spot at upper-left perimeter; fine hands; minute with oxide to tip; case rear not latching shut as pendant push is stuck in depressed position, rear lid lift springs are missing or broken, case shows medium wear, fixed cuvette with profuse fine scratches from past key slips and with some perimeter marring at upper-right from misguided past attempts to open with a blade, some dings to rear perimeter, reduced engine turning detail with full loss through rear shoulder; tight bow thinned at top, push shows medium wear and is stuck in depressed position; glass crystal with numerous fine scratches and small surface nicks; box shows medium wear, some scratches, abrasions and finish loss to exterior, good button latch.
